said he wanted to bring this to the attention of the Bureau
with the thought in mind that som steps might be taken to stop the
production of material of this type during the present emergency. He
stated that he intended to call the contents of this issue of "The
Worker" to the attention of Congressmen Karl Mundt, Richard Nixon, and
Te Vincent Quinn, and he inquired whether there was anything he might
Suggest to the Congressmen to assist the Bureau in taking action on
this matter. SA _
b ia - I told TR, of course, we appreciated his calling
and he could be sure his call would be made a miter of record. He was
told that the Bureau was an investigative agency and that any legal steps
taken to stop the publication of "The Worker" would have to be initiat
by the Department.
_ The Bureau is trying to locate a copy of "The Worker" for
July 16. When this is done, it will be reviewed and if it contains
mterial of a seditious character, it will be submitted to the Criminal
Division of the Department for an opinion as to what, if any, action can be taken
regarding this.
