UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT
Memorandum

SAC, SEATTLE
NORJAK
On 11/9/73, SAC MATTSON called from Portland.
He advised that on 12/10/71 the Wilsonville, Oregon
Branch of the National Bank of Oregon was held up by
a lone robber. At the time the robber entered the bank,
a customer was being served by a teller and on the
customer leaving the robber approached the teller, held
herup and departed. The teller advised that while waiting
for the customer to depart the robber had gone to a desk
at the side of the lobby where he did some scribbling.
In conducting the investigation the Agent recovered from
this area a note with the name "D. B. Cooper" printed on
it. Suspecting that ARVIDIS KIPERTS was the individuals b6
who perpetrated this robbery in preparing the affidavit b7C
for a search warrant at KIPERTS' home in Vancouver,
Washington, on 11/3/73 allusion was made to this incident.
Subsequent to the search of the home and recovery of
KEPERTS' diary and a substantial number. of guns there
has been a lot of notoriety attached to his arrest and
one of the newspaper reporters has noted this reference
in the affidavit. The newspapers are now running stories
linking KIPERTS with the captioned case. KIPERTS' diary
recovered from his home shows that on 11/24/71 he attended
an auto show at the Collesium in portland, Oregon From
11/25-29/71, lie visited Bellevue. His
diary also reflects that during this time, specific date
not shown, he purchased a gun at the Bazaar (probably
Gov-Mart Bazaar) in Renton. It is a 30-30 Marlin lever
action carbine and they believed he paid $105 for it.
The description of KIPERTS does not resemble
that of the Unsub in this case. However, I suggested
to SAC MATTSON that if they have a photograph of KIPERTS
that it be shown to the witnesses in Portland. S/ 5
