Mra. King and her father-in-law informed Abernathy they were greatly — upset over "reports" they. had received indicating that SCLC { contemplated holding a "moral court" in Memphis, Tennessee, during the latter part of March or early April, 1969. Coretta King told Abernathy she would be embarrassed to participate in such an activity and acidly inquired why her opinion had not been 8 7 an prior to SCLC deciding upon such a course of action. A confidential source advised R Abernathy explained to Coretta and Reverend King, Sr., the idea of -the "moral court" was simply«one of several proposed activities which had recently been discussed by the SCLC staff to be held on or about April 4, 1969 in commemoration of the assassination of Reverend King, Jr. He said a firm decision on these proposals had not yet been reached with one exception. That exception Abernathy assured Coretta was a definite decision that SCLC would not conduct a pnorel co ‘in connection with any activity on or about April 4, 1969.
