@ @ “PAGE 2 TO DIRECTOR FBI (174A-DN-57419) /IMMEDIATE/ ONE TECH-9 MACHINE PISTOL, AS WELL AS IN EXCESS OF 30 IMPROVISED EXPLOSIVE DEVICES (IED). THESE IEDS RANGE FROM SMALL C02 CARTRIDGES, TO PIPE BOMBS, WITH THE LARGEST IEDS COMPRISED OF 20-POUND PROPANE TANKS. THE SMALLER IEDS WERE IGNITED BY FUSES AND THE LARGER DEVICES WERE SET ON TIMERS WHICH FAILED TO OPERATE. THE RESULTING ATTACK CARRIED OUT BY CAPTIONED SUBJECTS RESULTED IN EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO THE SCHOOL, AS WELL AS 15 DEATHS, INCLUDING 12 STUDENTS, ONE TEACHER, AND CAPTIONED SUBJECTS. IN ADDITION, 25 OTHER STUDENTS AND FACULTY WERE INJURED AND RECEIVED TREATMENT AT LOCAL AREA HOSPITALS. TEN STUDENTS ARE STILL HOSPITALIZED, ALL OTHERS WERE TREATED AND RELEASED. FBI, DENVER WAS REQUESTED BY JEFFERSON COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE TO ASSUME A PROMINENT ROLE IN THE INTERAGENCY TASK FORCE FORMED TO INVESTIGATE CAPTIONED INCIDENT. ‘THIS TASK FORCE CONSISTS OF 13 STATE, LOCAL AND FEDERAL AGENCIES. _ FBI, DENVER IS CONTRIBUTING APPROXIMATELY 20 SPECIAL AGENTS, SUPERVISORS, AND SUPPORT EMPLOYEES.
