Judge BICNS hed deni ed an application by defendants .
JACKSON and CIARNMEY to allow them to ‘pRodd8d in forma

furnished with a daily stenographic transcript. United
States District Judss PICKS ruled that they were not™
entitled to procéed hi.forma pauperis and he ruled ‘that
defendant TRACHTENZ 3I.G pay one half the cost of a
daily stenogravhi.c cranseript, the other half to be
paid by the Governucr.t.
On June 12, 1955, Hefense attorney
CHARLES T, DUNCAN moved on Lehalf of all defendants to
strike certain portions of the testimony and other
evidence received during the presentation of the Govern-
ment's case, This motion related to three generat
categories of evidence:
1. Hearsay cGeclarations of third party intro-
Guced ‘through Government witnesses
e. statements made by witnesses
themselves rezgarding things that they did or views they
expressed
3. Documentary exhibits introduced
through various Government witnesses
Defense Attorney MARY M, KAUFMAN
argued on June 13, 1956, that the Government had failed
to establish that the defendants ' interpretation of
the principles of Marxism - Leninism was the same as
the interpretation given by Government witnesses and
by documents in evidence.
At that time Defense Attorney DUNCAN
moved to strike the entire testinony of Government Wit-
nesses ETHEL NC CALL and CONSUEL@ LLOYD on the ground
