On 9-11-70, news media released information that the FBI is
investigating the pledging of 900 shares of stolen = toek at The Key
Biscayne, Florida, Bank headed by Charles'G, ebozo, close
~ persenal friend of the President. The rélease Ticat ,
became suspicious of the transaction and called the President's brother,
Donald Nixon, in California, in an effort to further chec¥ on its authen-
ticity. Further, upon learning that we were investigating the matter,
he disposed of the stock. A civil suit has been filed inJ.S, District
Court, Miami, against fhe Key Biscayne Bank headed-by Rebozo by the f p)
. insurance company representing the brokerage house from which the
stock was stolen.
By way of background, this is the case in which approximately
two million doHars in IBM stock was discovered missing in September,
1968, from the New York brokerage house of E. F, Hutton and Company.
Investigation determined that 900 shares of this #tock had been pledged
at The Key Biscayne Bank headed by Rebozo, by Charles L, Lewis of
Atlanta, Georgia, for.a $195,009 loan. Before making this loan,
Mr. Rebozo had considerable investigation conducted concerning Lewis
and the stock including requesting that the President's brother, Donald
Nixon, of California, make inquiries concerning the borrower. After
the loan was approved, Rebozo requested BE, F, Hutton and C pany.to. -..-
