Domestic Foreign Lanzuaeve Press
Since our last report of April 1, the pro-Axis section of the
foreign-language press devoted considerable space to the seizure of
the German, Italian, and Danish ships in American ports, This sei-
zure was criticized on the grounds of its effect upon international
law, and the administration was accused of having employed "gangster
methods".
The German section of the press continued reporting on the la-
bor questions and emphasized the government's error in creating the
present labor troubles by having favored certain class organizations.
As was to be expected, the attention of the readers was also

directed to the recent article of Colonel Lindbergh in Collier's maga-
zine, the contents of which were fully approved. It is likewise note-
worthy to observe that for the first time since this Section was es~
tablished. th

appears to be in accordance with its general policy of spreading re-
cial issues whenever possible. A wholly disproportionate stand for
the suppressed negro was taken.
The Office of Government Reports came in for a part of the lime-
light, it being referred to as the “American Gestapo" and considerable
apprehension was evident with regard to the permanency and possible
expansion ef this Bureau.
The pro-Fascist section of the Italian press dwelt upon the Yu-
goslav situation at considerable length, encouraging mediation on the
part of Signor Mussolini, and the subsequent coup d'etat, which was
