ee er ae wae : A | ue ' t 1 } * J SEATTLE RE UNSUBS; UNITED FARM WORKERS - VICTIMS, NOTE: In recent days, several communications have been received at FBIHQ asking for immediate FBI investigation into unspecified violations of civil rights of minority race members of United Farm Workers in Coachella Valley, California. Alleged violations are purportedly asa result of a labor dispute that has been going on in the area for almost ten years involving organizing efforts of the teamsters and the United Farm Workers. Our present interest4a—, this matter is strictly limited to determining the validity of the alleged Civil Rights violations. We are closely coordinating with the Civil Rights Division. Offices involved have been responding to FBIHQ initiated inquiries but are expanding the matter beyond the area of 4 immediate interest by advising that, “the matter (labor dispute) will be followed." Phoenix has carried the matter beyond the scope of Civil Rights interest by setting forth a lead for several offices to advise Phoenix regarding movement of the labor dispute into the Phoenix Division. This teletype is designed to get the captioned inquiry back on the intended Civil Rights track and to insure we do not become involved in an over-all investigation of the labor dispute under a Civil Rights caption.
