(Quakers), striking Chicago welfare employees and some
Catholic and Protestent groupe and/or representatives. A

good number of the pickets were students who left before
9:00 AM and a token force of four to six pickets remained
at the scene until the warehouse closed in the evening.
Johnson stated that Lee Webb of the SDS was active in

CGeGrdinating the actions of the SDS pickets during th
demonstration.
Continuing it was learned from Johnson that there
was no outright support of the picketing by the Teamsters
Union itself but that the picketers received some individual
support from a number of the teamster workers who refused
to cross the picket line. It was also learned through Johnson
that Cesar Chavez, active in organizing the grape workers
in California, had been ir Chicago that date confering

Chicago area. He left at 1:45 PH and returned to California.
Johnson gaid that in the past the NFWA had received the
support of some Teamster Union locals in carrying out their
strike against the DiGiorgio Corporation products. They
had been most saccessful with the Teamster Union on the
West Coast. Johnson remarked that the NFWA with the aid of
CORE and other civil rights groupe had been quite successful
in getting DiGiorgio and Schenley products removed from

According to Johnson the picket line would resume at 7:00 AM
on May 24, 1966, however, it was not expected that more than
ten or 12 pickets would participate on that date.
