American Citizens must
condemn the outright
violation of civil rights and
the inhuman and unlawful
acts which took place under
the direction of the Sheriff
of Reeves County, Texas, on
Thursday.
“Specifically, LULAC
feels that Title 3, Section
54.03 of Chapter 34 of the
Texas Family Code was
completely violated by
arresting chiidren and
«placing them in the same’
tfacility with adult
: criminals. “The Sheriff of!
a Reeves County deliberately
refused to accept bond from
a recognized bondsman of
the state of Texas, a
violation of our state laws.
* Although it appears that
the rights of the United
Farm workers were
violated, we are reserving
comment on these matters

“LULAC DISTRICT. 4,
has unanimously endorsed
‘the efforts of the United
Farm Workers in Pecos,
and has taken the following
steps to try to assure that
the laws of this country are
carried out in the proper
manner,

LULAC District 4 will seek
further action from our
state and national offices.

assistance from Gover,
Dolph Briscoe, U.S. Sen.

Civil Rights.”
Murillo said that a gourp
of 20 to 29 United Farm
Workers — inclufing men,
women and children —
were conducting a peaceful
march when they entered
private property, according
to the Sheriff, and were
arrested for tres-passing.
