Wachter, a University of California student, was a
‘Communist, the couple seemed to attach no significance
to that fact, Wachter was one of the uncooperative
witnesses. called by the House committee. The Cali-
fornia student newspaper, in an inflammatory report
of the ‘rally’ against the committee the day before
the hearings started, made no mention of the FBI
findings that the 19-year-old Wachter belonged to
the Communist party as does his father,
"**Operation Abolition’ is the name given by the
Communist party to its attempts to have the House
J. Edgar Hoover and to undermine the nation's security
laws. The PTSA panel members took some of their
material from Hoover's report ‘Communist Target-Youth,'
in which the FBI director said, 'Channeled into proper
outlets, this force (youth) can accomplish immeasurable
good for a peace-loving world, Manipulated into
destructive channels, this force can create chaos.'"
