SURJECT: BURGESS-MAC LEAN ESPIONAGE CASE
INQUIRY BY THE LONDON SUNDAY TIMES
who advised that he is on the staff
of the London Sunday Times, stopped by my office this afternoon. He
said the Times is taking "a new look" at the Burgess-MacLean espionage
pleft off the attached list of questions which relate to the
FBI's role in this espionage case and wondered if we could give him
any guidance or assistance regarding these inquiries. nm
. was told that it was most unlikely the Bureau
could be of any service whatsoever, but that the material would be
reviewed and he would be contacted. 3p said he and other
members of the London Times staff had done extensive work in the
Middle East and in England on this case and had gotten some assist-
ance from British intelligence on a background basis.
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended thas@iigiiiar attached questions
regarding the Burgess-MacLean case be referred to the Domestic
Intelligence Division for review and analysis. Although the British
are, of course, aware of this YT Sa story, it is believed
desirable that they be advised of contact,
