Petrov stated in an article in the "United States ews and
World Report” issue of September 23, 1955, that he learned through
his colleague in Australia one Kislutsin, Second Secretary of the
Russian Embagsy tin Australia that Burgess and haclean were long-tern
agents who had each been independenily recruitec to work for the
Soviet intellicence Curing heirstudent days at Cambricge University.
According to Kislytsin who was in London from 1945 to 1942, Burgess

Embassy where they were photographed and returnec to hin. The flight
of Burgess and Haclean was planned from Moscow because they had
discovered they were under investigation. When they made this
discovery Burgess and Maclean reportiec to their Soviet superiors in
much alarn, Kislytsin assisted in pianninge their escape and met
them upon their arriual in Moscow, He was responsible for their
welfare and visited then often in a comfortable home outside of
