THE BOOK . : Thig book summarizes the life of Harold Adrian Russell "Kim" Philby, former MI-6 (British IntéTligénce) agent who defected to Russia in 1963. The book tells the i: story of Philby's life, including his birth, his early years, i and his attendance at Cambridge University where he became «= ‘#B associated with the anti-Government pro-communist group. ¥ The book tells of his graduation from college, his trip to Austria where he met and married his first wife, an Austrian communist. He then was a correspondent covering the Spanish War and in 1940 was recruited into MI-6. His progress in that organization, including service in the United States is set forth. The book deals with his involvement in the defection of Guy Burgess and Donald Maclean, British diplo- ( ! -- Mats, as well as his life in Lebanon, and his ultimate defec- ‘> tion to Russia in 1963. r ‘ oL J decoding done by the British during World War I and World War II of German radio traffic, and how these interceptions helped the British in both of these wars.
