American intelligence looks stupid and our cooperation with the United Kingdom in that regard non-existant. Ridiculous. ' Correspondent is apparentiy referring to Harold ‘old A. RK. Philby, aka. Kim, who is the former British Intelligence Officer who allegedly defected to the Soviet Union after admitting that he had served as a Soviet agent for a number of years. At the time of his disappearance in January of this year, Philby was Staying at Beirut, Lebanon, and was a news correspondent. He had not been employed by the British for a number of years. He was stationed in the United States in 1949 to 1951. o sondant wrote Wieneactoes in Deremher 1989) ewacaeding Correspondent wrote the Director in December, 1962, regarding the issuance of clearances. His letter was acknowledged by the Director 1-2-63.
