At this time SAC Hood of the Los Angeles Division called Kies ng
regarding this case.
Mr. Hood advised that a .45 machine gun was apparently used. Wine shote
were fired, five of which hit Slegel. Both of his eyes were shot out. One of the
bullets burned the coat of Allen Smiley who was sitting next to Siegel and who is
being held ss a material witness. Mr. Hood st-ted that Siegel, Virginie Mill, her
orother Charles Hill, her secretary Cerry Mason and Smiley had been at the beach
near Santa Monica and had returned to Virginia Hill's home not long before the
shooting occurred.
Mr. Hood also advised ghat Luella Parsons reported in her newspaper
column this morning thet GeorgeChatt flew to Paris last night. It was suggested
that there 1s a possibility that Raft and Hill might have been on the same plane.
Mr. Hood was advised that inquiries along this line would have to be very discreet.
