+ Office Memorandum * UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT To ; Director, FBI DATE: July 22, 1916 ‘ jo yy * SAC Los Angeles SUBJECT: REACTIVATION OF THE CAPONE GANG. / RISCELLANEOUS INFORMATION - CRIME SURVEY Bureau File No. 62-81903 Reference is mde to a teletype from the Bureau, dated July 3, 1916, addressed to the Los Angeles, Chicago and Salt Lake City offices, wherein a request was made that the Los Angeles office make certain that the Bureau and Chicago are in possession cf all pertinent data not previously forwarded concerning BEMIAMIN "Rugsy\VSIvGel.. This resume is taken from the Crime Survey Memorandums and other files’ in the Los Angeles office, BE SIEGEL, his wife and family have resided in the Los Angeles area at different ‘times since 1937 when he moved here from New York City. Shortly afte # arrival in Los Angeles, he was arrested and charged with the murder of ALYGREENBERG, @ looal charuster, who was prominent in the motion picture labor reokets. SIEGEL, were ultimately dismissed on these charges. /The allegation nas been made that SIEGEL was a direct associate of LOUI¥ LEFKE, New York mobster, who was recently electrocuted in New York State, rough his association with LEPKE, SIEGEL was identified with the notorious Murder, Incorporated which had received considerable publicity in the press. SIEGEL has been having marital difficulties for some time ana the thought of divorce was always distasteful to him because he did nct want to injure the reputation of his two children. He has received considerable publicity in the Los Angeles press, particularly in connection with his arrest for bookmaking which is a felony in the State of California when he was picked up in company with GEORGE; RAFT SI“G=L each pled guilty and were fined $e50. each. iN While he lived in Los Angeles he raintuined a palatial residence at 256 North Delfern Drive in Folmby Hills, \Persons of the hoodlum alement wno are xcown to te friandiv with SIRGRL are both of whom are well known fanblers.
