Michivan Avenue, Chisago, Illinois, called at thie office on September 7, 1932, being referred here by United States Attomey Dwight H. Green, with reference to sone information which ho hed relative to cormmnistic activities end a further merch to Veshington by bonus ndvocates, Mr. Sweet stated that he was a patent attorney, vas a member of the bar in Chioxgo, and had previously been employed by vhe Bureau of Gtandarde, Washington, D.C. in 19168 and 1916, and by the Patent Office in iaehington, D.C. from 191é to 1919; that he wos presently engaged in the practice of patent law at Chicago, Tilinoeis, a and recently took 4 trip to North Dakota and South Dakota for the pur- . pose of forming independent grocers and tradesmen. On this trip hs became acquainted with one Chariesa Stevens, Vice-Prasident of the Yerauers Union of North Dakota, and who operates e gasoline filling station i: Valley City, North Dakota. Mr. Sweet stated thet in con- versation with Mr. Stevens he learned that Stevens was very uative in . Organizing ex-service men and unemployed men, as well as farmrs in . the conmunity, to form anuther expedition to march to Yashington to _ advocate passage of the soldiers' bonus; that their plans cre to obtain ~ recruits in North and South Dakota and 411 throuph the Mississippi River Valley so that if possible thousands of ex-nervice nen os well os un- employed tredagmen and farmers will march to Washington within the next thirty or sixty days. Mr. Sweet said that no definite date had ‘been arranged, but that during his trip to North and South Dakota he heard considerable concerning this march and believes that a large -nunber of persons will be reorui ted. for a further mirch to Vashington.
