The previous ex polity of of state and local hunger mirches huve shown the vossibility of attack on the part of the armed forces and of the fascist groups on the National Hunger March. Already the American Legion has had a special meeting in “Washington, and took up the question of the National Hunger March and discusses ways and means of breuking up the march. We must be thoroughly pre- oared for an attack. The attack can be expected as follows: 1. In many localities an open attack by the state and city police on the march. 2. The organization of fascist grougs, fimerican Legion, etc., to at- tack the marchers. 3. Re-route the marchers outside the city limits in order to avoid passing thru important cities. 4+. Picking on little details, as overcronded trucks, etc., to bresl. up the march, 5. To demoralize the march in Washington proper thru either an open attack or other ways, such as denial of housing accomodations thru all kinds of excuses, etc. 6. Splitting up of the main column on the route and thus demoralizing the effectiveness of the march. In order to withstand all possible attacks. by the city, state und aat- ional government, we must take immediate organizational steps to sro- tect the National Hunger March and organize defense grouns to defend the March from all possible attacks. Aa The following steps shall be taken and carefully prepuired: 1. Right after the conference where the delegates till be elected, = meeting of all delegates shail be held and the delegutes asSigned to trucks. While dividing the delegates snecial attent- ion must be given to assigning to every truck 3 courades 18 2 nuc- leus for defense work, whose task it is to Leed und involve the workers in defense. Yinerever possible these 3 comrades shell be ex-servicemen, or physicially fit for this sork. z. A special meeting of the comrades assigned for defense shall he held where the duties and tasks shall be expluined and detailed instructions given. 3. Every district division shull ussign & courude responsible for the defense work, vno in turn shall be in close touch with the defen- se groups on the trucks. Gomrades resnonsible for defense vork shall sit in the front of the truck with the driver. 4. The district division and column shill muve together. Under no cir- cumstances shall they break up.
