children will testify at these open hearings. The "Hoover
Committees "for Child Welfare, Child Labor, ete., are
being asked to send representatives to the hearing in
Washingten. They will also be urged to endorse the
National Hunger March to Congress on December 5, in which
children also are to participate.
It is further reported that an effort is being made
to hold a "United Front" conference in as many towns as
possible to make olans to support and take care of the
children's delegations to Washington on November 24, and
the Hunger March to Washington on December 5.
Statements in the Daily Worker, the central organ
of the Communict Party of the United States of America
(section of the Communist Internationale) are general in
character and follow the lines of the "call" issued by the
National Committee of the Unemployed Councils, the Young
Pioneers, and the Workers International Relief. They speak
of delegates to be elected at “hunger hesrings" throughout
tine éastern states, but do not indicate the particular
localities from which the children will cone.
No definite information has as yet been secured in~
diecating the cities from which children’s delegations will
comes A report from Baltimore, Maryland, the reliability
of which is open to question, states thet about seveny-five
children woulé come from New York, twenty from Ealtimore,
and some from Cumberlend. A rehearsal or local cenmonstration
in Baltimore was to have been 1:e1d November 19. Qne Joan
Hardy is said to be preparing to come. She is said to be
al elgnieen or trenty-year-old woman who was voreviously
arrested in Washington during a demonstration.
Reports have been received from Chicago to the effect
that the children's delegations will probably come from
New York City, Baltimore, anc Philadelohis. Translations of
articles in Novy Mir, a Russian language Communist publication,
da not indicate details as to the number of children or the
starting points. ;
