These were persons who had been arrested : about the time of the riots. Before that time no finger- a, prints had been taken when arrests were made. 4 comparison oe of these fingerprints with the police records mintained in the Identification Division of the United States Bureau of Investigation, resulted in the diselosure that 17 of these Sl individuals, or 33-1/S4, hed prior police records, divided as follows, the name cf the offense indicating the charge for which eonvieted: Lareeny . Military offenses Sex offenses Disorderly and vagrancy Felonies (unknown) Forgery Robbery Liquor laws Dismissed ee The fingerprints of these 51 individuals were, likewise, : compared with the records in the service branches of the Govern- pa ment. From this search it was found that 16, or 31.34, had no WoRld War service record, and, thus, were not entitled to bonus certificates. During the time when the Bonus Expeditionary Fores was in Washington, legislation was enacted authorizing loans to veterana Tor the purpose of returning +¢ their homes. In orfer to ascertain the eligibility of applicants for these loans, the Veterans sd- oat ministration required each applicant to fill out a card containing his name, his Army serial number, service record, names of or- ganizations in which served, date of service, claim number, if any. and the number of his application for adjusted service certificate. In many cases the cards ware not gompletely executed.
