ena, ek As ace a oe S seen ana cain eth te Thane oo Pa P tee ZOPLE OF THE COMM * ‘*We want decent housing, fit for the shelter of human beings.” In any city, country or nation, this is one of the most important neces- sities that one needs to live. But i: oi 4s if the Slumlords and Fos Pigs of Winston-Salem ‘ert know this or that they just don’t care about anyone else, On Match 4, 1970, Miss Polly Graham came into the Hesd= quarters of the Wiuston-Salem Of- fice of the National Committee to Combat Fusctsm and stated that she had been evicted from her hone after the door nad been kicked duwn, by fascist pigs and a silly avaricious Shiolord, Miss Graham -@jked the N,C.C FP, for any type a? uelp or assistance we could give her. After arriving fa the coiunmunity we found out set only aie ase, had Miss Graham been evicted but the fools (PIGS) had promised to come back and evict other fam{- ' Hes of the community. The houses in the Locust Street area are not fit for the Shelter of Human Be-~ ings: some of the homes do not have bathtubs, some don’t have hot water, windows are broken and some have holes in the walls big enough for pigs to crawl through, The Slumlords have not made any effort to correct any of these de- ficiencies, If anyone sflouldbe pay~ ing anything , the people who live in these rat infested houses should be paid for living under such conditions, The people of this com- muntty got together with a Grother and Sisier of the Winston-Salem National Committee to Combat Fascism and decided that Miss i wae by bb Ned Graham nor anyone else was going to be evicted. Miss Graham’s be- longings were moved back into the house, The Brother and Sister and people of thecommunity armed and prepared themselves to deal with the pigs and landlords when they returned, When word reached the low- Ufa ‘bigs that we were ready to deal with them in the language they spoke, (through the barrel of & gun) they wauldn’t show their faces in the conimunity, The run- ning dogs hid. Afterwards, it was reported that an anonymous donor had paid the rent, and another report said some type of govern- ment agency had paid the rent, But regardless of how the rent was paid} the people had taken their stand and they yowed to re- sist any more evictions and the SRUTY VS THE SLUPAL re-eviction of Miss Graham. Most of the people also objected to the Paying of the rent because they felt like the house was not worth the money that was paid, Since this Incident, the city of- ficlals or ‘‘Ciry Slickers’’ have gotten upset over the eviction, as if this was the first time it has happened, Of course everyone knows this {s not the first time this type of oppression has taken Place. Just last week an elderly lady, Mrs. Minnie Bellamy and her grandchildren were evicted in ‘ice cold’ weather, and nothing was done about it. Those fouls down- town couldn’r help know about it because {t was publicized for two days all over the city. The real reason why these fools are upset aecev ne cone & Pa ORD: TNN-SAl ual is because the people of this com- munity have taken a stand against this madness. and refuse to let it happen again, So to you ‘‘deep- ly concerned” city officials, Mayor ‘*Mad"’ Benton, Chief of Pigs “Un- justice’’ Tucker, your upset days have just begun, because we poor oppressed people of Winston- Salem are going to be dealing with you from here on out. We have the constitutional right to bear arms, anc if that’s what It takes. to deal with you, so let it be.
