(AIC tir. Larry Peterson By the time you get this letter you will have probably received a sample of carpet from the West Point Pepperell Company in Dalton. I have not seen the sample yet but it supposedly looks like a match with Williams’ carpet. Pepperell manufactured the Luxaire line, of which the sample is a member, from 1970 through 1975. We are only concerned with 1970 and 1971 as Pepperell switched to a DuPont fiber in 1972. We are also getting all available records concerning the customers and amount of this type of carpet sold in the Atlanta area. : I also want to mention several other areas where the PBI may be of some assistance in your present effort. The Laboratory has a Special Projects Section, whose major function is the preparation of exhibits, charts and other types of visual aids that can be extremely useful in court- room presentations. Let me know if you plan to use any visual aids and if you want our assistance. If you have had no success in determining the source of the bedspread from Williams' room, our Special Photography Unit may be able through some photographic techniques to obtain some information from the illegible label on the bedspread. Also, if you decide to pursue the determination of the amount of carpet like that in Williams’ automobile, the P2I has contacts at the General Motors Corporation that we can furnish to you or that we can contact ourselves. If there is any chance that the rug fiber from Barrett's shoe which matches fibers from Willians' automobile will be used at the upcoming trial, the contacts with General Motors may result in valuable information. We are also presently beginning to classify and characterize nunerous dog hair samples obtained in the Washington area from Huskies, Malamutes, Keeshounds and Elkhounds. We are also starting to receive German Shepherd hairs. We can make these samples available to you if you wish to conduct additional comparisons. I've enclosed a few applications for our specialized schools for and others who expressed an interest in atten g one of the hair and fiber schools at the FBI Academy.
