ONASSITS offered to acconpany BERENSON to Washington, D. Ce. and introduce him to JOE ROSENBAUM, He stated that at — this time ho had no offer from ONASSIS to furnish financial assistance. BERENSON insisted that the original idea to secure the vessels was his own; however, he stated that he had discussed the idea with ONASSTS because ONASSIS had tanker experience, in fact had sevoral ships at this time. Vy Wit Name OL SF MVNA LOU WEL LO WESTIE UOli,y Ve Ve When they arrived in Washington, D. C., ONASSIS and BERENSON 3 went to ROSENBAUM!s law firm where they met ROSENBAUM. He stated a! that GRATSOS did not-go with them to the law firm, and in fact he ; 7 never saw GRATSOS again, friend of tan BERENSON stated that after ONASSIS introduced him to ROSENBAUM he, ONASSIS, left and BERENSON discussed with ROSENBAUM the possibility of purchasing vessels from the United States Maritime Commission. PUDLEY came into the conferance he had with ROSENBAUM. He stited that it is possible that CASEY also attonded this confercneco but he cannot recall for certain whether CASEY was present. He stated that at the first mecting “he had no definite financial arrangements worked out with ROSENBAUM and DUDLEY. The undoerstunding was that they would organize a corporation and sub- mit an application to tho Unitod Statos Maritime Commission for ton tankers, If thuy were allotted the ships, they would work out arrangements. ROSENB/.UM asked for an arrangement on the payment of the feo and BERENSON told him it would be a no cure- no pay arrangement for legal fees. - 169 - «= ae |
