On December 29, 1978, John Ryan,
Schmitt's administrative assistant,
called OLA regarding the status of
this matter. OLA only received this
correspondence yesterday but we have
learned that the Senator has personally
discussed this matter with the Attorney
General. The AG agreed to have someone
in the Criminal Division look into this
matter to determine whether or not ©
there is any statutory basis for
federal intervention.
