Pursuant to this investigation the FBI has established a repository (FBIR) which contains isolates of the Ames strain of Ba from the United States and other countries around the world at the United States Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID), Fort Detrick, Maryland.’ Following the mailings, the FBI identified any government, commercial, and university laboratories that had virulent Ames strain Bacillus anthracis in their inventories prior to the attacks.
