Regarding the absve conference, Source Four, on
April 19, 19 957. | fare sishea an announcement for the confer-
ence captioned “The Role of the Southern Redical in the
Americen New Left." This announcemsnt made mention of ‘ths
Students for a Demsecratic Society, the Frogreesi
Party, and the DuBois Clubs as having bs ed to speek.
At approximately 7:00 a.m. on December 4, 1957, ;
Gene Guerrero, Jr. entered the 4FE=55 in Avlentea, in eccord-
ance witn kis orders to report for indoection..
At 9:05 a.m., Major enue l Heredia, Commanding
Officer, AFEDS. advised thet Joz9 puin Evcene Gurrero, JUr..-
had refused induction into the United States army.
At about QO:12 a.m., Gene Guerrero exited from the
main entrance of the AFLEaS, at which time he stood on the
Steps to the building while he read from a copy of a pre-
pared statement headed "Wny I Must Refuse Induction" which
had been distributed previously, and a copy of which is
included herein. At approximately 9:17 a.m., Guerrero and
the remaining pickets departed from the AFEES.
No disorder occurred during the above demonstra-
tion, and no arrests were made. The pickets did not ob-
Struct access to the building, and did not attempt to gain
access to the building. The pickets did not hinder any
inductees from reporting and did not surrender or burn any
Selective Service cards.
