No wonder many Friends feel deeply about this matter. * Many of us think the Committee should not work within the limits of a Yearly Meeting unless it is very careful to make sure that the Yoarly Mect- ing approves of all activities conducted within its area, Our danger is not that Friends have lost their ideals but that they are not sufficiently alert to prevent their institutions from being used by sly, scheming wolves in sheep's clothing who circulate so freely among us, We need to sharpen our wits, watch carefully, spot them and stop them before they vulsc- rize@ and pervert the ideals of Quakerism and of our free Christian civilization, We question the wisdom of branch diices and would prefer that in- digenous Friends carry on such activities under local or Yearly Meeting aus- ~ pices, If the Service Committee has funds available for such work, they could be used to subsidize these local activities. In any event, branch office activities should be conducted only with the approval of the Yearly Meeting or Mectings in %S appointed members to the Board of Directors o the area. If the Yearly Meetin of ALI.S.C,, the members appointed by each Yearly Meeting could supervise Service Committee activities within the limits of the Yearly Meeting in questicn, These comments and suggestions are offered humbly inthe haope thar they may be useful to Friends in thinking through the difficult questions in- volved, We want to sce the Service Committee restored to the place of high esteem it formerly occupied in the minds of Friends and non-Priends.
