At lower right center may be seen a white cord which was tied to the hot
_ water pipe crossing between Cell Block B and C and was one inch in
+ Qiameter. This cord was lowered down the utility shaft and upon reaching
' the bottom, which was directly behind Subject's ceils, it was determined
to be twenty-six feet ten inches. Sections of this cord were knotted at —
intervals which apparently indicated the tier level reached when lowering
or raising the rope. Fragments of raincoat material may be observed in
general debris in center of picture. The five-gallon paint bucket from
which a stick is seen protruding contained hardened cement paint and it
was in this bucket a number of the Subjects' tools were subsequently
* Jocated.
The heavy plank extending across the chair may have been used as the
velent necessary when "vulcanizing" the seams on the raft and "Mae West"
acket
