Background:
U. S. Engineers office, San Fran-
cisco, has advised that the tides
at time of Alcatraz escape on
,;June 11, 1962 would have caused a
free flowing body to flow out to
the Pacific under Golden Gate
Bridge. Because of force of tides,
reaching of Angel Island would
have been difficult. Water temper-
ature was 50 to 54 degrees.
All bodies locatedin the Bay area
being closely checked for possible
identification with the escapees,
Intensive investigation continuing
for any possible trace of the
