article under the caption “Communist Party Pleats Arms Util at
House jiearing! which stated that on that day, tue Conmudist
Farty appearing before the Youse Foreign Affatre Coumtttee
castigated President Trumzn's Military Assistcrce Frogran
as "one of the most desperate acts which Congress could take
towards unleashing a new war.”
According to the article, those appearing before the
Committee in onposition to the Frogran were: Arnoid Johnson,
the Farty's nattonal legislative director; Dr. R.R.B. Du ots,
representing both the Counctl on African Affairs and the
Anerteoan Continental Conagress for Peace which was to be held
in Merice in September; Harold Buchman, appearing for the
Progressive Party;and Miss Jule 7. Banchard wio represented
the Washington Conference on Peaceful Alternatives to the
Atlantic Tact.
Tie article stated that the Fashington Conference
on Feaceful Alternatives to the Atlantic Fact was formed in
May, 1949, and that its sponsors included Dr. Albert Finstein,
Bishop W.J. Walis, Dr. Thomas Mann, and Wiss Ev.tly Greene
Balch, 1945 Nobel Feace Prize winner.
