The reference indicated in the block below is 4
mimeographed letter dated October 11, 1947, on the letterhead
of the Emergency Committee of Atomic Scientists, Incorporated, ~
located at Room 28, 30 Passau Street, Princeton, New Jersey,
and signed ty A. Einstein.
The letter was disseminated in solicitng funds for
the committee to help in its "campaign of education to ensure
that atomic Bnergy will be used for the benefit of mant:ind
and not for humanity's destruction".
Attached to the above-mentioned letter wis a leaflet
entitled "The Last Hour Before Midnight" issued by the En-reency
Committee for Atomic Seientists which reflected Altert B'nstetr
- as Chairman cf the Committee and Harold C. Urey as “ice~-
Chairman.
