According to this report Joseph W. Weinberg
was employed with the Theoretical Group at the Radiation
Laboratory at the University of California, working on the
4 D.S.M. project. On March 29, 1543, Weinberg gave Steve
helee ‘elson, Secretary, Communist Party of «Alameda County, and an
ui cperative of the Comintern Apparatus, information concerning
t' t the basic conceptions behind the D.5. M. project, and an

A chronological report of the activjties of Joseph
W. Weinberg for the month of Pebruary, 1943, compiled from
various detailed reports on file in that office, was. set out.
Informatior was obtained as a result of technical surveillance
of Weinberg from 4 p.m. until the time of his retirement each
day, together with the reports of Confidential Informants MIS
SF-8 and MIS SF-20, who observed Weinberg continuously while
at his home, 2+27 Blake Street.

Under the date February 5, 1944, the following
information avpeared: “During the morning Joe had a discussion
with Merle Weinverg, concerning scientific work throughout the
world. He said, 'It is remarkable hpw much scientific. work
has been done by the Germans. If I could only read German,
I could learn 90% of all the physics done in this country. The
Danes, Swiss and Dutch, write in German. The Germans have dome
at least 50% of the work in ph,sics. I'm sorry to say, the
* - Russians have had very little to vo with the tremendous advance
