Mr. Keenan incuired whether I would have any objection to the Chicago papers taking @ photostat of the picture and record of Alphonse“Vapone. I cited the instance of the time that one of the New York papers published this material and Capone registered a very vigorous protest to the Superin- tencent of Prisons of whet he called infringing upon his privacy, and Mr, Bates was rather incienant thet the photograph and prints hed been given out. I advised thet personally I could see no objection but suggested that he con- tact ¥r. Bates before taking any steps in this regard. ~ Mr. Keenan further stated that United States Attorney Hall from _ Los Angeles had Just called at his office and advised that he had received a telezram from the NPA group in Los Angeles in which it was stated that there 4s a nuisance racket going on there of people who rent three or four rooms, hsve 8s telephone installed, sell NPA stickers and indirectly represent then- ' selves to ho Govemoxcnt agents, altnough they do not say in so many words that m they sare. Mr. Hall rezuested that Mr. Dunn be assigned to bring in these individuals to his office and let him, Mr. Hall, talk with them, I advised that personsily I would be gied to so assign Mr. Dunn but suggested that he talk with Mr. Parrish before teking any steps as there hes been quite a con- troversy about NRA investigative jurisdiction and we have been ordered by the Department to leave all such investigations to the NRA and take no part therein, bat that i li.
