CONSPTRACY TO RECEIVE AND SEND CONTRABAND OUT OF THE UNITED STATES PENITENTIARY, ATLANTA, GEORGIA. Dear Sir: Reference is made to the latter Prom this office to the Bureau, dated August 244° 1935 ,and the reply thereto which was contained in personal contapeetial letter from the Director dated August 29, 1935. In accgrdance with the instructions contained in the Bureau letter, Spq@eial Agent George J. Starr of this office interviewed Major Charleg E. Russell regarding the above matter. Major Russell stated that he was not the author of the article Which was submitted tAyReal Detective Stories entitled "The Biography of Al Capones Life in the Atlanta Penitentiary," sup- posed to have been written by Fy Barrett, Baltimore, Ma. The hame of Barrett was mentioned, but brought no response or reaction from Major Russell, who apparently was not at ali familiar with the name. He could offer no information as to who might write an ar- ticle of that nature, but expressed the belief that it might be an article more or less concocted by someone — some super ficial eneral si ion. al knowledge of the general situati GOs q.
