Mr. Irrgang stated that there is a surplus of grapes this yeer
and that 400,000 tons have been left m the vines, having been purchased
by the Farm Loan Board, to be used as by products.
Mr. Irrgang also stated that Merk T. Adarson,of the Produce Exchange
Building, Chicago, Illincis, was a wery close friend of Joe Ferrara and
wes lined up with him am will probably be connected with Mamy Schrieber
in the buying of grapes this year.
Mr. E. BE. Mills, 1425 South Racine avenue, Chicago, Illinois,
treasurer of the U. S. Fruit Auction Canpany, Chicago, Illinois, is out of
Chicago at the presert time am will not be back until Wednesday, September
24, 1950, when he will be intaviewed by Agents of the Chicago Bireau office,
Mr. C. R. Godding, 66 South Water Merket, Chisago, Tllincis,
eeoretary of the JU. 8. Fruit duction Canpany, which ls the auction in which
the juice grape cers are sold, stated that he accompanied hk}, FE. E. Millis
and Lir. Cherles Irrgang to Washington, D. C., on September 17, 19D, and
that on September 15, 10D, these gentlemen had a conference with Mr. Teague
of the Farm loan Boerd in the mming, and in the afternoon had a conference
with it. Dodd of the Criminal Divisim of the Department of Justice. Mr.
Godding stated that Lr. Irrgang at these confermces did most of the
talking aes tir. Irrgang was more familiar with the matter of the racket in
the julcs grepe business in Chicago, Illinois.
Mir. Godding werlfisd the data firniashed by Mr. Irrgang, as reflected
in this letter, cocerning the pwyment by the U. S. Fruit Auction Commny
of $20 a car to Joe Ferrera on the juice grapes sold by this auction at the
Chicago and Northwestern juice grape track diring 1929 and added that he and
ur. Mills do not know the detalis of the other facts set forth in this
letter as shom by At. Irrgang, except as they have been informed of them
by Mr. Irrgang. Mr. Godding stated that the U. S. Fruit auction Company
was incorporated im 1026 in Chicag under the laws of the State of Illincis,
with a capital stock of $250,000, $190,000 of which has been paid ine
51% of the issued stock of the U. S. Fruit auction Company is owed by the
Chicago duction Company and the Indepahdent Fruit duction Company, of
which the Independent Fruit duction Cammy ows 60% of the 51%, and th
Chicago auction Company owns 40% of the 51%, the remaining 49% of the
U. S.« Fruit auction Canpany being owed by individuals interested in the
fruit and produce bus iness.e
