On August 15, 1939, while a witness before tha
August, 1939, Grand Jury, ZWILLMAN was directed to arswer as to
what business he engaged in and with whom he worked from 1926
through 1932.
On August 18, 1939, ZWILLMAN was given another opporirnity
to answer this inquiry. On August 21, 193°, United States
District Judge JOHNSON J. HAYFS, Southern District of New
York, adjudged ZWILLIMAN in contempt of court and sentenced him
to six momths at the Federal House of Detention, New York City.
ZYILL AN was paroled in the custody of his attorney, A!-THUR
GARPIF ID HAYS. Bail was fixed at $10,000 pending appeal,
The docket indicates that the United States Picelity
and Guarantee Company furnished surety on behalf of ZWILLIAN
on August 22, 1939. On the same date, an order was filed in
the docket allowing the defendant to depart from the jurisdiction
of this court to his resicence in Fast Orangs, New Jersey,
and to enter inte business in the counties of Essex, Union, ard
Bergen. An appeal was filed on this date,
On November 16, 1939, an order to grant the defendant
pemission to leave the jurisdiction of this court to enter
business in Chicago, Illinois, was filed by United States
District Judge ALFRED J, COM,
On January 26, 1940, an order to grant the defendant
pa mission to go enywhere in the United States wes Tiled by
United States District Judge WILLIA!! BONDY,.
On February 29, 1940, an order was filed ordering
QWILLVYAN for retrial, This order was filed by United States
District Judge COKE.
On December 31,1954, a "nolle prosequi"” was entered
and filed in the Southern District of New York, signed by
United States District Judge FDWARD J. DIVOCK.
