William H. Webster, Director, Federal Bureau of Investigation.
a Dear Mr. Webster:
I must again commend your bureau in it's pursuit
of scoundrels holding public office.
The evidengfe you developed in the Kentucky case
aired tonight by 60 MINUTES must make many Americans rejoice.
The protestations of malefactors that they were baited, or
"entrapped", makes a godd scenario for a Lucy Show.
There is an uneasy feeling throughout the land
that most politicians are crooked, and that the electorate
is largely helpless to do anything about it. This distresses
me, personally, because I spent eight years of my life, during
critical personal years, "defending democracy", In my eight
years in the Marine Corps I was aware the navy yard workmen
and the aircraft workers were making ten times the money
-=- my fellow fighters and myself were. And so were my compadres!
This is surely not the first letter of commendation *
you have received for the "Abscam" type of investigation of
corruption in government. I hope you read and understand my
message. That message is, there are a lot more like me who
applaud your efforts and motives, and KEEP IT UP!
