concerning this matter, as long as it had been referred to a
Birmingham Office he would discuss it with SAC HALL and SA
It was pointed out a: :: the FBI had
conducted extensive and exhaustive investiga 5 concerning a
number of bombings in Birmingham, including the captioned case,
was still continuing to vigorously investigate these matters at
the present time, and was vitally interested in any information
which he might possess or which individuals might indicate to him
that they possessed concerning the perpetrators of these bombings.
It was further pointed out to him that the FBI has the investiga-
tive responsibility concerning these bombings, but its jurisdiction
is restricted solely to fact-finding, and that all determinations
concerning prosecution in cases investigated by the FBI are made
either by the U. S. Attorney or the Department of Justice in
Washington. ae
