Charles Cagle. 22. was fined Sim and sentenced to st. months hard labor. He posted a §300 appeal bond and was released. The charge is a misdemeanecr. City Judge Earl Langner con- victed Cagle on two counts in- volving the dynamite. The twe other ren, scheduled to be tried this morning, are R. E. Chambliss, 59, and John Wesley Hail, 35. Statement Intreduced In Cagle’s trial, the state intro- duced a signed statement Cagle made to Capt. Robert Godwin cor- roborating Hall’s version of what happened the night of Sept. 4. According to Cagle’s statement, the dynamite was allegedly hicl- jden after Atty. Arthur Sheres’ jhame was bombed. A bemb exploded at a corner of Shores" house on Center-st late ithat night, touching off a rict in iwhich one. Negro was shet to ideath. It was the second time i ltwa weeks the home had been . bombed, and came on the day 'Negro children registered for the first time at nearby Graymoent school. Cagle’s statement said he went to a Ku Klux Klan rally the ‘night of Sept. 4 in nearby Besse- ‘mer, where he mtet Chambliss and Hail.
