The: KENNEDY men have taken over in Birmingham,
with local and state authorities having» a minimum -
of jurisdiction.' . oo
| t" These statements are patently false
ke misleading and they malign not only dedicated
FBI agents but the community of Birmingham. No
one has ‘taken over’ this city.
We regret dissemination of such
information about our city in any area of this
state."
It is obvious that “The Birmingham News,"
in this instance, rallied to our defense and in language
which is probably as strong as any newspaper normally
sees fit to use for comment with respect to. another
newspaper, particularly in the same state. “The Birmingham
News" endeavored to set the record straight.
Yt is my recommendation that the Director
4 , jjimmediately send Mr.’ TOWNSEND a letter thanking him
NB for his comments in the editorial.
A copy of this letter is designated for Mobile
