The following are the developments which have occurred
in connection with our investigations of the bombings in
Birmingham, Alabama, at the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church,
residence of Arthur Shores, and the intersection of Sixteenth
Avenue and Center Street South.
‘The indivjduals picked up by the Alabama Highway
Patrol (AHP) on the night of 9/29/63 and early morning .9/30/63
for interrogation/following the arrests of Robert Ei-@hambliss
and Charles Arnig/Cagle in connection with the Birmingham
_ Chambliss and Cagle are still in custody at the cjty jail in

Cagle and they are being held for the AHP on “open charges" or
for investigation, Birmingham advises that it is the consensus
‘of law enforcement officers and representatives of press that
Chambliss and Cagle, if they desired to sue for false arrest,
would have an excellent basis since the interrogation of them
by AHP developed only information that Cagle and John Wesley
