I told him right offhand I did not know the answer to this question but it has certainly been a good many years and that I would check and let him know. He asked that I return the call to him AP 454 in the Attorney General's office. I also asked him if his inquiry was vA in connection with the recent Birmingham bombing case and he said yes. 5. Pes After checking with the Director, I called Andretta back in the Attorney General's office and told him that we haven't offered a reward in over 25 years and that we had found it was not a successful way to try to solve cases. I also told him that it has been our experience that where substantial rewards have been offered that more difficulties were generated than cases were solved. I told him that our way of operating was to offer substantial sums to informants who produce on the barrel head and that this had brought success in the past. He said he had the same feeling and had so indicated to the Attorney General.
