I oe LE IE Jet | C00819160 - On March §, 2 had luncheon in the "hiversity of Colorado cafeteria vith the folloving representatives of the administration: Dean Huston; Dean Dyfe; the President of Student Government, Dick Olde; the head of the University Housing Administratio, Cliffe Yoder; Alan Haagensen, President of the University studsnt body Internaticnal Relaticns Student > Gounecdl and the Foreign Student Adviser, eorge Hundley. In afdition, I spoke in; rivate ; G@iscusesions with Dean Dyde, Mr. Yoder of the Rousing Administration and the Poreie@m Student ' Adviser, George Hundley. On the vhole, I wee very much impressed with the University ad- > gindetration’s attitude tewerd the Project and the willingnese an? entkvetess they nani feeted | to get the Project underway. and to provide every possible support through the administration | and the faculty for usking the program a succees. I was particularly inypressed by the | representations sande doth ty the Dean cof Students’ Cffice and the Foreign Student Adviser that they vould only act in the background bat preferred that the student governnest it- eelf aseune the major respoensibility for the implezentation of the program. Dean Huston, for exarple, mde it cleer th-t the at.-inietraticn would keep a watchful eye =m the Fre ject but in all areas where students eould Carry out the responsibility, they. would encourage that rather then assuming such prerogatives for themselves, e I also had a long talk vith the Foreign Student Adviser. He seemed to appreciate very much the secning and significance of the Project and expreseed a great desire to — think ‘2 terzs cf an expanstcn of the Project at the University as a permanent feature of ta fcoredgn stutzant proeram. This of course was encouraging inasmcch ac this ie the type os triag waiea we are haying to be able to do on all campuses. tne of the sore interesting aspecte of wy vieit to the University of Colorado vas the unique interest shows in the Project by the Hcusing Administrator, Mr. Yoder. Vy judement ie, after discueelon vith both adzinistraticn and the faculty as well as vith representative cembers of the student body, that they are very woch avare of this problen and. are doing a.number of things in ormter to creates a nore profcuni interest cr the pert of all elements of the University community in making the extra-curricular activities programs -- or as they call it, the co-curricular activitioes program — a veally valuable adjunct of the academic life cf the University. It was on these grounds taat they Juetified their enthusiasn for the Foreign Student Lesdership Project. A particularly interest facet of the student act ivittes prcera® at the ‘Univers’. ty of Colorado is their prograa| for developing leadership.
