Pfeiffer, Emory University, New Jersey/,Neuropsychiatric Institute-, mmmmm Atlanta Federal Penitentiary OBJECTIVE AND DETAILS OF WORK: To study drugs affecting the central nervous system, looking towards an anti-interrogation drug. Also, to screen and evaluate hallucinogenic materials of interest to Technical Services Division. APPROXIMATE TIME SPAN: 1955-1962 SIGNIFICANT ASPECTS: Testing on human volunteers at Atlanta Federal Penitentiary and (Volunteers at Atlanta Federal Penitentiary received $2900 during 1 June 1957 - 31 May 1958 period.) In 1960 100 inmate/ volunteers , aged 21-28, from the New Jersey State Prison at Trenton were used. In 1962 the 5ordentown (N.J.) Reformatory averaged 10 volunteers a week for tests of drugs which alter human behavior. In 1962 work was initiated to evaluate a compound producing temporary amnesia and an alcohol -like effect on behavior.
