(U) Article Selection Criteria (U) The articles that were selected for this study were not sub- jected to any devised set of qualitative criteria, because it was not possible (within the scope of this report) to provide in-depthtrevalua- tions for each of 233 separate publications. A somewhat primitive screening procedure for methodological quality was achieved by reviewing only those journals that are typically refereed, or those that are gen- erally regarded by the parapsychological community at large as publishers * of serious state-of-the-art research. ’ . C4 (U) As a result, there were only two criteria that had to have been fulfilled for an article to be included in the DBMS survey. First, the article had to have been published in one of the following journals: ® European Journal of Parapsychology e Journal of Parapsychology ® Journal of the American Society for Psychical Research e* Journal of the Society for Psychical Research e Psychoenergetic Systems: An International Journal e Psychoenergetics: The Journal of Psychophysical Systems e Research Letter @ Research in Parapsychology. “(U) A similar review of the open literature on random number generator (RNG) psychokinesis was provided in a 1980 SRI International report en- titled "Electronic System Perturbation Techniques." In that study, many of the same journals listed in this report were surveyed, and it was determined that the articles exhibited a wide spectrum of methodological quality, ranging from exemplary, to poor or nonexistent.
