Rosen various newspapers, including the "Daily Worker,’ had carried articles to the effect that he had been connected with various Communist front activities, and that on the basis of this information Sinatra was denitted permission to entertain troops. Sinatra was advised this decision was based solely upon news- paper articles, Sinatra in reply stated he hated Communism and had never been a member of a Communist organization, de further stated that he would carry this matter to the Attorney General in order to clear his name and he would engage counsel to represent him, No information appears in bufiles that Sinatra has as yet contacted the Attorney General. On 10-25-5l., Mr. George Murphy, who in recent years has played an active role in sending movie entertainers to various parts of the world to entertain Armea services, telephonically contacted Mr, Nichols to discuss this matter, May f : . Mr, Murphy was advised that it must have been the Army's own decision not to use Sinatra based on the Army's own record, Since the matter of determining wnet actors are to visit the various theaters is one for the determination of the defense establishments and the various branches of the Armed services, it was suggested, therefore, that lir, Murphy contact the Army in this regard... Murphy indicated, nowever, that he intended to withdraw from this matter, (62+33219-29, 30,31) WEE Gt wis f4i Gi RECOMMENDATION: If you approve, the attacked memorandum will be furnished the Yepartment of State. This memorandum incorporates all information previously furnished OSI and G-2. In addition it refers State Department to G-2 for further information concerning Sinatra. , aoe : / ~~
